  • WWMD

I had the honor of asking Gill Montie for a picture of his knukles and he graciously obliged me. The WWMD stands for “What Would Matt Do”. Matt is a good friend of his who does Special Effects for movies. Gil said that Matt was the coolest guy under pressure and he wanted to be reminded of that when he was under pressure. Gill is currently living in Beaumont Texas and owns Tattoo Mania. Gill is also known for his work creating George Clooney’s tribal tattoo in From Dusk to Dawn.

  • MID-WEST

This set of knuckle tattoos comes direct from Tristan W. who says:

i’m currently in Rochester, NY but born and bred in the midwest. nothing but flatlands and cornfields. this ink reminds me that even though i’ve been on the east coast for a decade, my roots are in the middle west. it’s a comfort knowing that even though i won’t be going home, home is always with me.

Nathan B., also of Sherman, Texas, got these both to look cool and to keep from getting a “real job”. He is a drummer and intends to stay that way.

  • Mummy Knuckles

Found these via the excellent Needled blog.

The Smithsonian magazine had a few articles about tattooing and this picture was in with the bunch. Here’s the caption:

The tattooed right hand of a Chiribaya mummy is displayed at El Algarrobal Museum, near the port of Ilo in southern Peru. The Chiribaya were farmers who lived from A.D. 900 to 1350.

  • I♥MY BIKE

This here is Kevin. He works at Bike America in Lee’s Summit, MO. He has this to say about why he got his knuckles tattooed:

I have been a bicycle enthusiast for many years. I have been a bicycle mechanic for almost nine years. I don’t own a car. Go figure.

Tattoos by Brian Holton at Bleeding Heart Tattoo.

  • FUCK LOVE

Today’s knuckles come all the way from Santa Clara, CA, courtesy of Nicole S. When I asked her why she picked FUCK LOVE this is what she told me:

I picked FUCK LOVE because of everything I have loved that fucked me over in return. Plus I just had a really bad breakup and was over the pain that love seems to bring me.

  • INRI

These knuckle tattoos come from just south of Montreal, Canada. I’ll let Ace do the story telling:

I am a professional tattooist and owner of Ace Valiant Tattoos in Chteauguay, Qubec, Canada. I decided last year to finish my right sleeve (pretty much Christian theme) with writing on the top of my hand and my knuckles.

Because I already have Jesus face in my inner forearm with IHS lettering underneath, John the Baptist on the top forearm, immersed in water, a dove and light, also the verses of Mathew 3:13-17 from the bible to demonstrate the fact Jesus got baptized.

It was pretty logical to put something to fit the rest.

On my knuckles, you can read some INRI in some old school lettering which means: Jesus of Nazareth King of Jews. I also have a little black cross over my right thumb, and some writing on the top of my hand which says: Only God can judge me.
